Three Lifetime Bests Posted at SDSU Holiday Invite

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Omaha track & field kicked off indoor action at the South Dakota State Invite Friday. Omaha was one of 12 schools at the invitational on the women's side. The Mavericks had three lifetime bests on the day for some early success to start the season.

"It was just good to get out and compete today," said head coach Chris Richardson. "After months of training, we always want to see what they can do. Even though December 3 is very early for us, we had some great performances. Now we need to carry this momentum into the break, so we can hit the ground running in January."

Sheridan Rodriguez and Kaitlin Hellbusch earned indoor lifetime bests in the high jump Friday afternoon. Rodriguez placed third overall with a jump of 5-07. It surpassed her previous indoor best of 5-06 set at the championships last season. Her 5-07 jump tied third on the day. Hellbusch tied her short approach with a jump of 5-03 finishing tied seventh overall.

In the 60-meter dash, Carrie Simonson earned the final lifetime best of the day. She ran a time of 7.82 good enough for eighth place. Simonson also represented the Mavericks in the long jump event. She posted a leap of 16-10 for a top-10 placement.

Simonson wrapped up her day with a 15th place finish in the 200-meter dash. She ran a time of 26.25.

Mary Fennessy was just two inches shy of making the top-10 list with a throw of 48-10 ¼ in the weight throw. She was Omaha's top finisher in the event. Fennessy also picked up an 11th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 40-05 ½.

Omaha earned another third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Vanessa Gunderson led the way for the Mavericks with a time of 48.26.

In the 400-meter dash, Macy Persinger notched a time of 1:01.87 leading Omaha to an 11th place finish in the event.

Taylor Ramaekers represented the Mavericks in the pentathlon Friday. To start the event, she placed ninth (9.75) in the 60-meter hurdles. Ramaekers posted a 29-08 shot put in the third event good enough for 11th place.

In the second and fifth events, she placed 12th with a 5-00 ¼ high jump and a 2:40.04 800-meter run. With a leap of 15-11 ½, Ramaekers placed 13th in the long jump, and with a final score of 2,975, she earned a 12th place finish in the pentathlon event.

The Mavericks return to action in 2022 with the Graduate Classic hosted by Nebraska on Jan. 14-15.
