Omaha, Neb.-- Seth Porter, head coach of the Omaha women's golf team, announced the signing of Sarah Lasso for the 2023-24 season.
"Sarah had a great high school and junior career in Nebraska," Porter said. "She finished second at the 2022 Class-A state tournament behind a girl going to a Big Ten school. We are looking forward to helping her expand her golf game and compete in the Summit League."
Lasso is a senior at Columbus high school. She has a varsity golf letter from each of her four years on the team. Sarah most recently earned a runner-up finish at the 2022 Class-A Nebraska high school girls state golf tournament. She finished three strokes behind the leader with a 36-hole score of 154. Lasso ended her senior year in second on the Columbus all-time scoring list.
In her first three seasons as a Discoverer, Lasso was voted the most-improved golfer by her teammates. As a freshman in 2019, she was also named newcomer of the year. As a sophomore, Sarah became the first Discoverer to make the podium at the Heartland Athletic Conference championship. She ended that season with an All-Heartland Athletic Conference team selection and a top-15 finish in the state tournament. In the 2021 season, Lasso continued improving as she earned runner-up at the HAC championship, the district championship, and sixth place at the state tournament. Sarah garnered her first super-state team selection and second All-HAC team nomination as a junior. She would add a second super-state and third All-HAC selection after her senior season.
Lasso is set to join the Mavericks for the fall season in 2023. She plans to major in pre-law and political science. Sarah is the daughter of Liliana Velasco and Luis Lasso. She has one brother, Juan Sebastian. Sarah is the senior class president at Columbus high school. She is currently ranked second in her class and has received numerous academic awards. Lasso is also an all-state choir member and state speech medalist.
