Nov 9, 2022 | Men's Golf
Omaha, Neb.-- Seth Porter, head coach of the Omaha men's golf team, announced the signing of Marvin Luchutaskul for the 2023-24 season.
"Marvin will arrive from Bangkok, Thailand in August," Porter said. "He brings a lot of experience from Thailand as well as international competition. He has played very well in amateur events and professional events over there. He hits it far, which is always a plus and we are looking forward to helping Marvin maximize his potential here in Omaha. His recruiter compares him to former Maverick Tiger Sinsrang. If we get close to what we had with Tiger in Marvin, he will have a great career here."
Marvin has racked up top-15 and 20 finishes throughout his high school career. As a freshman, Luchutaskul took first place and third place at two different TGA Singha Tour events. After a forced break due to the pandemic in his sophomore year, Marvin hit the international circuit in his junior season. Luchutaskul took 17th place at the USGA Junior-Amateur Qualifier in Maryland before earning seventh place at the Future Champions Golf event at Singing Hills golf resort in California in 2021. In 2022, Marvin continued to compete in international competitions. Most recently, Luchutaskul earned 11th place at the FCG Callaway World Championship at Desert Willow golf resort in California.
Luchutaskul will join the Mavericks for the fall season of 2023. He plans to major in computer engineering.
"Omaha provides a high-quality education system and a very welcoming environment," Marvin said. "I was amazed when I visited Omaha. The students and staff are polite, and the campus is prestigious. I am excited to compete in a high-level athletics program."
Luchutaskul is the seventh international prospect in program history. He and current senior Phoomintr Kaewvichien are the only two Mavericks to call Bangkok home. They join Tiger Sinsrang and Thirawat Chantrakantanond as the only four Thai-born Mavericks on the all-time roster.
