Swimming & Diving Has Dominant First Day at Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Both the Omaha women's and men's swimming & diving teams had dominant performances Friday night in the first wave of finals at the Rochester Invite.
The Maverick women sit in first out of eight teams, while the Maverick men are second out of eight.
"Day one was a solid start for our team," said interim head coach Jessica Hessel. "Our divers did a great job grinding through their lists, and we ended up with four top-eight finishes. Our swimmers put a lot of effort into their swims. I'm excited for tomorrow. I think we can crank out a few more gears as we continue through the weekend."
The women took first in four of the seven finals, including a sweep of the top-three finishes in the 500-free.
Friday's finals started with a first-place finish by a team of Gracie Streblow, Caroline Gardner, Annika Harthoorn, and Payton Easley in the 200-medley relay.Â
The women's success continued into the next event with first, second, and third in the 500-free. Hailey Matthews led the pack with a time of 5:00.61. Carina Monroe (5:06.22) and Kadence Jeffries (5:07.67) followed behing.
In the 100-fly, the Maverick women came out on top at the hands of Harthoorn. She swam a time of 55.86.
The final first-place finish for the Omaha women came in the 3M-dive. Kady Eller came out on top with a score of 451.35.
Olivia Dendinger led Omaha in the 200-IM with a time of 2:06.90 in second place. Payton Easley (24.04), Rachel Shelstad (24.07), and Streblow (24.20) then swept second through fourth in the 50-free.Â
A team of Annie Leinart, Streblow, Monroe, and Morgan Baker then claimed second in the 800-free with a time of 7:48.40 to wrap up the women's part of the meet.
The Maverick men picked up 20 top-10 finishes on the night. The first one came for Omaha with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay. Mason Schroeder, Amir Haviv, AJ Swibold, and Owen Hoak swam a combined time of 1:30.39.
Luke Asbury then led the Maverick men in the 500-free with a time of 4:39.37 for fourth place.Â
Caleb Miller climbed into the top-three in the 200-IM with a time of 1:52.65. Omaha also took third in the 100-fly and 1M-dive. Swibold claimed third with a time of 50.05 in the IM, while Blackstock's score of 428.50 in the dive.
Hoak was Omaha's top finisher in the 50-free. He took sixth with a time of 21.03.
The meet wrapped with the men's 800-free relay. A team of Haviv, Schaeffer, Swibold, and Walkley took second with a time of 6:52.42.
The Mavericks return to action tomorrow morning for the second day at the Rochester Invite.
