Mavericks Sign Gretna Golfer For 2022

Omaha, Neb.- Omaha men's golf head coach Seth Porter announced today the signing of prospective student-athlete Nolan Johnson for the 2022-23 season.
Johnson will join the Mavericks after he graduates from Gretna high school this May, where he has earned two varsity letters in golf, his first as a freshman. Though his sophomore season was canceled, Johnson didn't miss a beat in his junior year. He finished first in the Gretna Invitational last spring with an even-par, and took second in the Metro Conference Tournament with the same score.Â
Outside of the high school links, Johnson has also been productive. In 2020, at the Nebraska Boys All-State Invitational, he joined the junior circuit and went on to finish two-over in 6th place. The next year he would participate in his first national event at the 2021 US Junior Am Qualifier. Johnson took 14th place with a score of 74, shooting two-over. In his second national event at the 2021 American Junior Golf Association's GreatLIFE Junior Challenge, he finished in 28th with a total score of 221. He ended the year on a high note at the 2021 Frontier Junior Fall Series, shooting three-under throughout for a score of 69. Johnson took second place in that tournament.Â
"We are excited to add Nolan to the roster next year," said Porter. "He is a local kid who is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. He recently changed instructors and we are looking forward to seeing the results with his new swing coach. Nolan should fit in nicely with the team, and we are looking forward to his career as a Maverick."Â
The Mavericks open their spring season at the Joust at Goose Creek, hosted by California Baptist. Action tees off at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 21-22 in Jurupa Valley, Calif. Â
