Mavericks Open Outdoor Season at South Dakota

Vermillion, South Dakota – The Omaha track & field team kicked off its outdoor season on Saturday at the USD Early Bird Invite.
Taylor Ramaekers started off the day with a lifetime best of 15.95 in the 100m hurdles. In her first outdoor race of the season, Ramaekers shaved over a half of a second off her previous best.
In the 1500m, Maya Nachtigal set a new PR with a time of 4:55.72. Zoe Christenson also set a new PR in the 1500m by dropping 13 seconds off her previous fastest time.
In the 800m, Christenson posted another lifetime best with a time of 2:31:16, dropping two seconds off her previous best.
In the field events, the throwers had a stellar day. Lucy Turner threw a career best in the discus with a distance of 130'00.25".
In the shot put, both Kinsey Scheffler and Mary Fennessy had their longest all-time throws. Scheffler broke 40' for the first time with a distance of 40'6.25". Fennessy had 3 throws over 45', each beating her previous best. Her final distance of 45'4.25" was good for fourth place and fifth all-time in school history.
Finally, in the javelin, Lori Vedder had her longest season-opening throw of her career. Vedder was sitting in 7th place with a throw of 123'11" until darkness forced the finals to be cancelled.
"We saw some good things and others that still need work," said head coach Chris Richardson. "We had about a month off and it showed in some areas. Everyone needs to trust their abilities and have confidence in themselves. But for the limited times we've been outside, I was very happy with the way the throwers competed."
The Mavericks are back in action at the KT Woodman Classic, hosted by Wichita State, Wednesday, April 6 through Saturday, April 9.
