Cross Country Picked To Finish 7th In Summit League Preseason Poll, Ensley and Nachtigal Tabbed As Athletes To Watch In 2022

The Omaha Mavericks were picked to finish 7th in 2022 Summit League Cross Country Preseason Poll that was released this afternoon. Clive, Iowa native Kamryn Ensley and senior runner Maya Nachtigal were tabbed as Athletes to Watch for the 2022 season.
Ensley, a graduate of West Des Moines Valley High School, was a four-year letter winner for the Tigers cross country and track teams. She was a member of the All-Conference cross country team all four years. As a senior, she never finished worse than 3rd place in every cross country race and had a Personal Record of 17:53.6 to finish in second place at the state meet. Ensley rounded out her four years of high school by being named to the All-State and All-Class-Elite All-State teams and an Elite All-State team member in the 4x800.
In her junior campaign, Maya Nachtigal put up quite the numbers. She appeared in six meets for the Mavericks last season and led the team in every race. Nachtigal ran a career-best 17:37.3 5K time at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite last September. She also ran a career-best 6K time of 23:04.2 at the Summit League Championship, placing 31st overall to land her 13th on Omaha's all-time list.
Ensley, Nachtigal and the rest of the Mavericks will kickoff their fall season this Friday, September 2, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Augustana Twilight meet.Â
