Cross Country Puts the 2023 Campaign in the Books

The Omaha Mavericks Cross Country squad has officially put the 2023 season in the books after competing in their sixth and final race of the year. The Mavericks finished the 2023 NCAA Midwest Regional Championship with a total time of 1:55:39.80 coming in 27th place.
For the fifth time this season, Sophomore runner Kamryn Ensley paced all Maverick runners. Ensley finished 60th overall with a time of 21:53.6. Following her was Freshman runner Katelyn Johnston. Johnston finished her season with a 23:07.4 total time which was just one second off her time at the Summit League Championships two weeks ago.
Lauren Metzger was the third Maverick to cross the finish line today. She ran a 23:23.1 in her final race of the cross country season. Lior Kremer followed Metzger closely behind with a time of 23:31.8. Program newcomer Emma Hain made her top five debut this afternoon as the Mavericks final point placer. Hain finished with a time of 23:43.9.
"We ended today with a lot of ups and downs which has been the story of the last month or so for our crew. Even through the negative I'm incredibly proud of our team this Fall," Omaha head coach Cliff Cisar said. "Our team has had to battle through some adversity on several levels and even through it they've stood side by side and taken care of one another."
Ensley, Johnston, Kremer and Metzger were consistent all year for Omaha. The quarter finished all six races in the top five for the Mavericks this season.
The Mavericks pieced together a strong season with two top-five finishes and a top-10 finish. The top-five finishes are highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Augustana Twilight Meet to open the campaign and a second place finish at the second annual Omaha Platte River Rumble, two weeks ago. In their second meet of the season, Omaha placed ninth at the difficult Woody Greeno Invitational where their entire top five finished the 5k race in under 18:41.
"I'm really excited to for them to get a much deserved break from training and recoup as we begin to set our sights on indoor,"
Cisar said.
