Mavericks Take Third in Three Events in Day One of Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - The Mavericks had a solid first night at the Summit League Championships Wednesday. The men and women combined for three top-three finishes.
The Omaha women sit in third with 85 points tied with Lindenwood, while the Omaha men are in fourth with 60 points.
"Night one was full of energy," said head coach Jessica Hessel. "We had multiple relay splits that were the fastest in school history. It's great to see the speed coming through for so many of our athletes. We are proud of Holly for getting top- eight in 1 meter. To top it off, our women broke the 200 medley relay school record, and Hailey broke her 200 free school record leading off the 800 free relay."
The 1M-diving final tipped off the action. Holly Bernardin represented the Mavericks in the A-Final. She placed seventh with a score of 226.50. Sam Klein, Kady Eller, and Bella Price all dove in the B-Final. Klein led the three with a score of 205.25 for 12th.
Both squads then earned third in the 200-medley relay. For the women, a team of Gracie Streblow, Caroline Gardner, Annika Harthoorn, and Payton Easley swam a time of 1:41.02, which set a school record. Mason Schroeder, Amir Haviv, Elijiah Clements, and Grant Waszak followed up with a third-place win for the men. They posted a time of 1:27.89 in the event.
In their second straight event, the Maverick women then placed third in the 800-free relay. Hailey Matthews, Kadence Jeffries, Annie Leinart, and Parker Hagemann swam a time of 7:30.44.
The men closed the night in fifth with a time of 6:44.91. Luke Asbury, Grant Schaffer, Michael Johnson, and Caleb Miller were part of the fifth-place squad.
Day two of the action picks up tomorrow morning. Prelims begin at 10 a.m., while finals will be at 5:30 p.m.
