Mavericks Produce Results at USD Early Bird Despite Windy Conditions

The Omaha Track & Field squad competed in their second outdoor meet of the season over the weekend at the USD Early Bird meet. The two-day event spanned Friday and Saturday in Vermillion, South Dakota.
"The conditions were tough with long days and lots of wind, but we had some people come out and compete well," Omaha head coach Chris Richardson said. "Many of our athletes are moving in the right direction and need to continue their momentum. We don't have to be perfect, we just need to know that we have put forth the effort to be the best we can be."
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1
None of the performances in long jump, triple jump, 100m, 100m hurdles or the 200m can be considered a personal best due to the wind exceeding 2.0 meters per second. Any PR's achieved can be considered an all-conditions personal best.
The Mavericks set their sights on another two day track meet in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azuza, California this Friday and Saturday.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1
- Lucy Turner and Mary Fennessy both threw season bests in the discus with Turner at 124'4" and Fennessy at 127'5"
- Vanessa Gunderson ran her 2nd fastest 400m hurdle with a time of 1:06.33
- In the 1500m, Kamryn Ensley ran a 2 second PR with a time of 4:47.67
- Maret Elgren ran a 90 second lifetime best in the 10000m with a time of 39:41.82
- The 4x100m relay team of Tania Gleason, Nona Cuevas, Emma Klein and Carrie Simonson finished 4th overall with a time of 48.57
- Carrie Simonson ran an all-conditions best of 12.06 in the 100m and jumped a season best of 18'4.5" in the long jump
- Tania Gleason ran an all-conditions best of 24.99 in the 200m
- Taylor Ramaekers jumped to an all-conditions best in the long jump with a distance of 17'4"
- Emma Klein jumped a season best of 38'1.25" in the triple jump to finish 8th
- Kinsey Scheffler threw a lifetime best in the hammer throw with a mark of 135"10"
- Lucy Turner threw a season best of 129'3" in the hammer throw
