Mavericks Produce Plethora of PR's in Regular Season Finale

In their last regular season meet of the year, the Mavericks tracked to Ames, IA for the ISU Alumni Invitational. They walked away with 16 personal bests, 5 season bests and two new entries into the all-time top 10 list.

Action on the track started with both Grace Mustard and Addison Webster running college bests in the 100m hurdles. Mustards time of 15.25 beat her previous best time by over half a second. Webster's time of 15.40 was just .09 off her lifetime fastest. Next up, Senior Carrie Simonson ran her fastest 100m with a time of 12.21 to finish 4th. In the 200m, Ashley Ostrand came away with a season best while Macy Persinger followed up her 400m PR from a week ago with a personal best time of 26.17. Freshman Tania Gleason dipped under 25 seconds for the first time to run a 24.88 landing her at the 10th fastest 200m in school history. Moving up to the 400m, Bella Fleming ran a 3.5 second season best of 1:00.91. Dropping down in distance from their regular events, Gwen Steffen had a quarter second PR of 1:00.05 while Emily Treptow clocked a 1:00.87 beating her previous best by over two seconds.

As the distances increased, the fast times kept coming. Olivia Steffen ran a 2:24.91 which was a her fastest of the season by 3.9 seconds. In the longest race of the day for Omaha, six Mavericks ran lifetime best times in the 1500m. Senior Maya Nachtigal led the way with a 3rd place finish and 4.5 second PR of 4:44.27. Just behind her, Freshman Kamryn Ensley had a 2.5 second PR of 4:44.98 and Lauren Metzger had a huge 12.5 second lifetime best of 4:45.19. Ensley and Metzger finished 5th and 6th respectively. Rounding out the PR's in the 1500m, Zoe Christenson dropped three seconds off her time to finish in 4:59.49. Maret Elgren ran a 5:00.47 for a 5.5 second PR and Sydney Beaudin chopped 9 seconds off her previous fastest with a time of 5:07.24.

Not to be outdone by the running events, the field events came to compete as well. Bernice Lawson leaped to a personal best of 35'3.25 for 2nd place in the triple jump. Taylor Ramaekers won the event with a jump of 37'1.25.

In the throws, Lucy Turner had season bests in both the hammer throw and discus finishing 7th in discus with a mark of 129'1". Freshman Chloe Walker had herself a day with a PR in the hammer throw and the 8th farthest discus throw in school history. Her distance of 133' was good for 5th place in the competition.

"That was a pretty fun day. There was good competition and our team came out to compete," Omaha head coach Chris Richardson said. "Having as many personal bests and season bests as we did was great. I'm really happy for our two freshman having all-time top 10 performances as well. It's very promising for the future."

The postseason will get underway on Thursday May 11 as the Mavericks turn their sights towards the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
