Grasso Announced as Omaha Women's Golf Head Coach
Jun 7, 2023 | Women's Golf
Victoria Grasso has been elevated to head coach of the Omaha Women's Golf program, Vice Chancellor / Athletic Director Adrian Dowell announced today.
Grasso enters her third season with Omaha Golf after previously serving as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs.
"After conducting a thorough assessment of our golf programs, we concluded that it is in the best interest of our student-athletes to have a head coach for each team. As such, we are very excited to promote Victoria to the head coaching position of our women's program," said Dowell. "Over the past two seasons, Coach Grasso has played a vital role in the elevation of our golf teams after serving in coaching capacities at Grandview and William Penn. I am excited to see the execution of her vision for the program and the impact her leadership will have on our student-athletes."
In her first season as an assistant (2021-22), she helped lead the women's golf team to the best season scoring average in program history at 315.4. This season, Grasso helped the women's team to a scoring average of 310.4, beating last year's record-breaking mark by five strokes.
On top of helping the women's program shave five strokes off their team average this year, Grasso played a key role in the Mavericks earning their first 54-hole tournament championship at the WIU Invitational earlier this year. Nicole Hansen captured an individual medal at the invitational as well.
Every women's golfer that competed in the 2021-22 campaign had a better scoring average in 2022-23. Most notably, Maddie Simon averaged 87.4 throughout 2021-22, and improved to an average of 83.8 in 2022-23. Mika Miyata averaged 81.0 in 21-22 and averaged 79.1 in 22-23. Emma Kirvan went from 83.8 to 81.7, and Sydney Taake went from 78.6 to 78.3.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be named the Omaha women's head golf coach and I want to thank Adrian for this incredible opportunity. We have a very special and incredibly talented group of ladies that I am looking forward to continuing to build upon the rich and successful tradition of Omaha Athletics on and off the golf course," Grasso said.
Before joining the Mavericks, Grasso spent two years at Grandview as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women's golf program. With the team, she coordinated team travel and scheduling, daily practice planning, and led recruiting efforts.
Prior to Grand View University, Grasso led the women's golf program at William Penn as the interim head coach for two seasons. WPU ranked as high as 16th in NAIA national polls under her direction. As head coach, Grasso oversaw recruiting, scheduling, and fundraising. She managed player development, both in training and education. In addition, she ran the social media pages for women's golf across all platforms.
As an athlete, Grasso golfed for South Dakota, earning a varsity letter in all four years with the Coyotes. Grasso also made the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.
Most recently, she finished a master's in business leadership at William Penn. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Sports Science from South Dakota, as well as a minor in social media marketing.
