
Omaha Swim and Dive Finish Day One at Summit League Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - The Omaha swim squad had a solid first night at the Summit League Championships on Wednesday.Â
 The Omaha women currently sit in second with 62 points, while the Omaha men are in fourth with 73 points.Â
"Three new school records on night one feels great," said head coach Jessica Hessel. "The energy feels good and our relay swimmers and divers set the rest of the team up to be excited for our first full day of competing tomorrow. We are staying happy and hungry for more."
The 1-meter men's diving final tipped off the Championship action. Ian Blackstock represented the Mavericks, placing fourth with a score of 273.55.
In the women's 200-medley relay, a team comprised of Gracie Streblow, Olivia Dendinger, Annika Bussinger, and Payton Easley placed third with a final time of 1:41:87. The men, with a team of Mason Schroeder, Amir Haviv, Jace Walker, and Owen Hoak placed fourth with a time of 1:28.13.Â
Hailey Matthews and Kyle Kulow both broke the 200 free record leading off of the 800 free relay.Â
To close out the day, a team of Hailey Matthews, Olivia Dendinger, Kadence Jeffries, and Parker Hagemann claimed fourth with a time of 7:30.01 in the 800-medley relay. For the men, a team of Kyle Kulow, Michael Johnson, Mason Schroeder, and Caleb Miller placed fifth with a final time of 6:41.52. The men broke the school record 800 free relay record.Â
""Our guys really set the tone tonight for the rest of the week," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "Will, Cort and Cody put together great performances to get into semi-finals and then watching Cort and Will go out and finish at the top of the event was great. Ian started us out with our first finalist at the Championship this year and his 4th place finish is the highest finish for a male diver in program history."
Day two of the action picks up tomorrow morning. Prelims will begin tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.Â
