Day Three Brought Three More Broken Records for the Mavericks at the Summit League Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - The Omaha swim and dive squad kept the momentum rolling through day three of the Summit League Championship. Hailey Matthews broke the school record in the 100 back and the women broke the 400-medley relay record. Annika Bussinger also broke a school record in the 100-fly record.
The women finish day three in the number four spot with 310 points and the men sit in fifth with 271 points.
"I am most proud of our team's resilience today," said head coach Jessica Hessel. "We had some more outstanding swims but not everything is perfectly scripted. The short term memory I'm seeing has been outstanding. We celebrate successes, we reflect on unwanted outcomes and then we move on to the next race with a clean slate. We are now in the home stretch of our championships. I'm excited to see the final push to the finish line."
The day started off with the women's 100-fly where Annika Bussinger earned second with a time of 54.68. For the men, Jace Walker finished with a time of 48.71, placing 11th earning six points.
In the women's 400-IM Payton Krug placed seventh with a time of 4:32.37. Kyle Peterson swam a 4:10.16 tagging on one point for the men.
Payton Easley placed 10th in the 200-free for the women picking up another seven points with a time of 1:51.56. For the men, Kyle Kulow placed fifth with a time of 1:38.88.
In the women's 100-breast Olivia Dendinger placed 13th with a time of 1:04.62 picking up four points. In the men's event Amir Haviv claimed eighth with a time of 55.32 earning 11 points.
The next event was the women's 100-breast where Bussinger earned fifth with a time of 55.71. For the men, Mason Schroeder placed 12th with a time of 49.66 earning five points.
The final event in the swim portion was the 400-medley relay. The women's team comprised of Hailey Matthews, Olivia Dendinger, Annika Bussinger, and Payton Easley earned third with a time of 3:42.64. The men's team of Mason Schroeder, Amir Haviv, Jace Walker, and Caleb Miller earned fourth with a time of 3:17.43.
In the diving event, the men competed in the 3-meter where Ian Blackstock placed seventh with a final score of 292.95.
"Our men competed up on the 3-meter board today with some great effort and focus," said diving coach Eric Sprague. "Ian finished on top of the semi-final event for a 9th place finish and Cort dove lights out finish in 11th place. Congrats to Will for making his first finals event as just a freshman today and finishing in 8th place. Seeing 3 Mavericks in the top 11 was nice and shows real progress in the last three years."
