Track and Field Puts the 2024 Indoor Season in the Books

Omaha's Track & Field team had a lot of growth over the weekend in Fargo at the Summit League Conference Championships.
Action started off Friday at 10am with the women's Pentathlon. Senior Roxy Denton battled through an injury to a score of 2914 to finish 13th, a total that sits only 58 points short of her career best. On the track, Senior Emily Treptow ran to a near career best in the prelims of the 800m with a time of 2:20.60. In the 400m, Macy Persinger also ran to a near career best in a time of 58.68.
In the short sprints, Avyn Urbanski (7.81) and Tania Gleason (7.82) led the Mavericks in the 60m. Followed closely by Jade Jackson (7.90). Nina Cuevas (7.95), and Ashley Ostrand (7.99). Ostrand breaking the 8 second barrier for the first time and Gleason matching her personal best. In the 60m Hurdles, Jade Jackson (9.05) led the Mavericks, followed closely by Addison Webster (9.18) & Grace Mustard (9.37). Jackson's race was an open PR after following a spectacular 60m Hurdle portion of the Pentathlon where she ran an 8.99, breaking the 9-second barrier for the first time.
Tania Gleason ran the fastest 200m (25.24) dash of the group in the preliminaries to finish 13th. Closely followed up by Avyn Urbanski (26.11) and Ashley Ostrand (26.60). Ostrand finishing the event with an Indoor career best.
In the long distance event of the night, Kamryn Ensley (9:54.96) paced herself to 9th place finish in her second best time of her career in the 3000m. The event was highlighted by a massive race by Senior Lauren Metzger. Metzger (9:43.85) raced to 6th place finish in the event and her time was a new program record besting a decade old record by just over 4 seconds set by former Maverick, Amanda Vorthmann.
Capping Friday night off, the Distance Medley Relay team of Lily Jackson, Ava Robinson, Emily Treptow, & Lily Schwartz (12:28.99) raced to a season best time and 6th place finish scoring 3 pts to finish off the evening.
On Saturday action began in Triple Jump with Emma Klein (11.81m – 38'-09.00") jumping to new career best in the event to finish 8th place. In the High Jump, Senior Kaitlin Hellbusch (1.64m – 5'-04.50") finished up a solid competition with a season best and an 8th place finish.
On the track, Lauren Metzger (4:57.81) continued her spectacular weekend with her second fastest time in the Mile run to finish in 7th place and score two more individual points for the team standings. In the 5000m run, Kamryn Ensley (17:20.62) bested her previous school record and finished to a 6th place finish to score three more individual points towards the team standings.
Finishing up the meet, the 4x400m Relay team of Macy Persinger, Tania Gleason, Ava Robinson, & Nina Cuevas (3:53.96) ran to a 5th place finish in a time that is the fastest relay time the program has run since the indoor 2012-13 season.
"I'm incredibly happy to the level of which our athletes elevated to compete at given the incredible strength of our conference. It's evident there has been a lot of growth since August and it will continue as we transition towards our outdoor season. The work isn't finished, but this upcoming week of rest and refocusing will allow us to start off outdoor with everyone moving in the right direction," Omaha coach Cliff Cisar said.
