Mavericks Open the Spring with 10th Place Finish in Husky Invitational

SUGAR LAND, Tex. - The Mavericks opened the Spring portion of their 2023-24 season with a 10th place finish after three rounds in the HCU-Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
The two-day event was a 54-hole competition with 15 programs participating. Omaha scored 291 and 297 in the first two rounds, before finishing with the best score on day three and third best score across all three rounds at 280 (-8). The Mavericks ended the Invitational with a score of 868 (+4). This was three strokes behind ninth place Stephen F. Austin. NMJC took home first place with a total score of 847 (-17), while Jack Borow from Houston posted the best individual score out of 80 golfers with 200 (-16).
Connor Wilson and Nolan Johnson each finished tied for 21st after shooting one under par at 215. Wilson entered the final round at four over, before turning in one of the best performances of the event by shooting 67 (-5), tying him for the best round three score. As for Johnson, he finished the first round at one under before bouncing back from a +2 in the second round by capping off the Invitational with a score 70 (-2). He was the only Maverick to score two eagles in the tournament.
Also competing for Omaha were Josh Peters (218), Porter Topp (225), and Christopher Atkinson (226), who finished tied for 37th, 62nd, and 65th, respectively. After finishing rounds one and two at two over, Peters saved his best for last, scoring two birdies and his only eagle of the tournament over the back nine to tie Johnson at 70 in round three. Round three was also the best for Topp, who scored one over. Unlike the rest of the team, Atkinson's strongest round was the first when he shot an even par.
