Cisar Named Track and Field Head Coach
Jul 10, 2024 | Track & Field
Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Adrian Dowell announced today that Cliff Cisar will take over as head coach of the Omaha Track and Field program.
"We are thrilled to elevate Coach Cisar to head coach of our track and field program", said Dowell. "As an Omaha native, UNO alum, and with a wealth of experience as a current coach with the program, Cliff is uniquely qualified to lead our program moving forward."
Cisar, who has been the head coach for the cross-country program since 2017 and assistant coach for track & field, will now be at the helm of both Maverick teams. The Omaha native began his tenure with the department in 2010 as a volunteer assistant.
"As we assessed the competitive direction of the program during the evaluation and interview process, it was impossible to not be excited about Cliff's vision, energy and passion for the future of the program", said Dowell.
On the track, Cisar has coached or assisted in helping develop Maverick athletes to 53 new marks that rank among UNO's all-time top-10 lists in the middle distance and distance events.
This past track and field season, Cisar played a vital role in helping Kamryn Ensley and Lauren Metzger capture four school records during both indoor and outdoor campaigns. As the newly named head coach, he is looking forward to carrying over that momentum for the upcoming season for the entire program.
Since 2016, Cisar has coached all 25 Maverick athletes who hold a spot among UNO's all-time top-25 list in the 6k and 5k distances in cross country.
"I would like to thank Adrian Dowell and the rest of the search committee for entrusting me with this tremendous opportunity," Cisar said."I am honored to work for such a special academic institution and athletic department in a city that has meant so much to my family and I," Cisar said.
"I look forward to building the future of Omaha Track & Field and Cross Country with a vision synonymous with academic achievement, community engagement, and athletic excellence."
