Mavericks Lose 4-2 To Notre Dame

South Bend, Ind.--Cory McLean recorded two goals and goaltender Morgan Cey stopped 29 Maverick shots as Notre Dame defeated Nebraska-Omaha 4-2 at the Joyce Center on Thursday night.
McLean and Aaron Gill provided a 2-0 lead for the Irish in the opening period. McLean grabbed a rebound in the crease and beat goaltender Brian Haaland glove side eight minutes into the contest. Gill then gave Notre Dame a two-goal cushion when he tapped in a rebound that trickled behind Haaland with just 8.2 seconds left in the period.
The Mavericks (0-4-1, 0-2-1 CCHA) cut the lead in half in the second period when freshman Brent Kisio recorded his first collegiate goal at 10:02. Kisio scored on his own rebound right in front of the net on a pass from senior Scotty Turner.
UND (4-2-0, 3-2-0 CCHA) responded 1:52 after Kisio's goal when Rob Globke scored on a one-timer from the right faceoff circle on a pass from Michael Bartlett. Notre Dame then increased its lead to 4-1 29 seconds later when McLean fired a shot from the point that beat Haaland down low between the legs.
Nebraska-Omaha closed the gap to 4-2 with 1:53 left in the game when senior Andrew Wong scored his first goal of the season on a rebound in the crease. Cey left the game with an apparent shoulder injury after the goal.
Notre Dame outshot Nebraska-Omaha 33-32 for the contest. The two teams meet again Friday night at 6:35 central time.
