Five Named NFCA All-American Scholars

The University of Nebraska at Omaha softball team landed five student-athletes on the 2003 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete team announced today. Mavericks on the team included senior Krista Unger, sophomore Erin Bluml, and freshmen Kara Unger, Katie Novotny, and Shilo Jorgensen.
A two-time all-North Central Conference and academic all-NCC honoree, Krista Unger posted a 3.739 GPA in secondary education. Bluml earned a 3.641 GPA in business finance. Kara Unger, an exercise science major, had a 3.687 GPA. Novotny maintained a 3.786 GPA in university division. Jorgensen secured a 3.963 GPA in secondary education.
Student-athletes must acquire at least a 3.5 GPA to be eligible for the award.
The 2003 Mavericks finished with a 39-12 overall record and a No. 17 national ranking, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th-consecutive season. Nebraska-Omaha will open the 2004 season on Feb. 27-28 when they will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. for the Kennesaw State Tournament.
