Mavs' Rally Falls Short of Wildcats, 80-74

WAYNE, NEB. -- Arthur Boults scored a season-high 18 points to help the Mavericks rally the second half, but the comeback fell short in an 80-74 loss to Wayne State Thursday night. The loss drops the Mavs to 7-2 on the season.
Wayne State (5-4) used a late run to grab a 46-35 halftime lead, then extended that to 56-40 in the opening minutes of the second half.
UNO rallied with a run of its own and closed to within a point, 66-65, with 6:10 remaining on a pair of free throws by Ty Graham. The Mavericks then failed to score on three successive possessions in an attempt to take the lead. Dusty Smith hit a three-pointer for the Wildcats to stop the rally.
Boults' final field goal, with less than three minutes left, pulled UNO back to within a point, 70-69. Dallas Hodges then hit a short jumper and a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats a 74-69 lead with 65 seconds left and snuff the Mavericks' rally for good.
Graham added 11 points and Zac Robinson 10 for UNO, which is idle now until playing No. 7 ranked Rollins in the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev., Dec. 19.
