FARGO, N.D.- JJ Smith and Sara Meyers led all scorers with 12 points but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell topped the Mavs 63-52 Saturday night in the Comfort Inn Classic hosted by North Dakota State. The Mavs fell to 2-7 while Lowell improved to 6-4.
The Mavs were behind by just four, 56-52, with under a minute left, but the River Hawks' Emily Kordas sank four straight free throws in the final seconds to put the Mavs away. Kordas scored 11 points to lead her team.
UNO, down only by a point at halftime, shot just 3-16 from beyond the 3-point line and gave up 16 points off turnovers.
UNO will host Nebraska-Kearney next Saturday at 7 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs have three games remaining before North Central Conference play begins Jan. 9 at Augustana.
