Torrid Second Half Lifts Lopers Past Mavs

Nebraska-Kearney shot 63 percent the second half to surge past the Mavericks and post an 80-58 non-conference win at Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday night. UNO fell to 2-8 with the loss, while UNK improved to 7-2.
Lindsey Petersen, back in the lineup after suffering a sprained ankle a week ago, led UNO with 15 points. Sara Myers added 12 to go with 7 rebounds and Shannon Eggers and JJ Smith each scored 11.
The Mavericks fought from 12 points down midway through the first half to trail by just 25-22 with 5:50 left before the break and were down 33-28 with 1:35 left when the Lopers scored the final six points to take a 39-28 lead into the locker room.
UNK opened up the game by taking a 9-2 run at the start of the second half. The Lopers hit 17 of 27 shots after halftime and finished shooting 51 percent from the field for the game. Kalee Modlin scored 20 points and Anne Manning 17 to lead UNK.
The Mavericks are next in action Dec. 29 when they host College of St. Mary at Sapp Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
