Mavs Hold Off Central Washington, 89-83

LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- The Mavericks built a big lead, then held off Central Washington's late three-point shoting barrage to post an 89-83 non-conference basketball win in the High Desert Classic Saturday night. Arthur Boults' 17 points and Ty Graham's 16 led the Mavs, who improved to 8-3 with the victory.
UNO shot 64 percent from the field and held the Wildcats to just 26.5 the first half in mounting a 45-28 lead at intermission.
The Wildcats (2-7) then connected on seven three-pointers in the final three minutes to pare the lead to just four, 87-83, with 10 seconds left. Central Washinton's Tyler Mitchell missed a three-pointer with six seconds left and the Mavs' Andre Tarpley sealed the win with a dunk in the final second.
Central Washington hit 11 of 21 three-pointers the second half and 15 of 31 for the game. Chris Lynn, 6-for-9 behind the arc, led the Wildcats with 22 points and Scott Freymond, 4-for-8 on three-pointers, added 21 points.
Tarpley added 14 points and Randy Bland 13 for the Mavericks and Tola Dada had eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. The Mavs shot 52 percent the second half and a season-high 57.7 percent for the game from the field while outrebounding the Wildcasts 42-35, despite committing 28 turnovers.
UNO is now idle until hosting Morningside on Jan. 3 at 1 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
