Junior Lindsey Petersen scored 17 points and freshman Andrea Schoepf added a season-high 16 Monday night to lead the Mavericks to an 84-63 non-conference win over College of St. Mary at Sapp Fieldhouse. The win ened a seven-game losing string as UNO improved to 3-8 on the season.
The Mavericks converted 16 of 20 free throws the second half to pull away from a 35-23 halftime lead.
The Flames, now 4-12, fell behind the Mavs by 12 the first half before staing a rally to pull within 25-21, but a three-point play by Sara Myers ignited a 6-0 UNO run in the final minutes of the first half.
The Mavericks kept the margin in double digits after halftime and all 11 players scored in the game.
JJ Smith added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Mavs, who out-rebounded the Flames, 47-39.
College of St. Mary was led by Chelsea Malone with 12 points and Joselyn Mays with 10. Sandy Kirchner pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
UNO's next action will come in a week when it hosts Briar Cliff at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5 at Sapp Fieldhouse.
