Mavericks Fall to Colorado State-Pueblo, 79-65

PUEBLO, COLO. -- Colorado State-Pueblo used an 11-point first half run Saturday night to pull away from the Mavericks and post a 79-65 victory in the Holiday Inn/Chuck Stephens Classic.
The Mavs, led by Shannon Eggers' 17 points and 11 by Andrea Schoepf, fell to 2-5 with the loss, while CSU-Pueblo improved to 3-4. UNO played without junior forward Lindsey Petersen who suffered a sprained ankle Friday night against Northern Colorado.
The Mavericks never held the lead, but used an 8-2 run to forge a tie at 19 on Leslie Ross' layup with 11:48 remaining in the first half. CSU-Pueblo scored five straight points to pull away, but UNO stuck close. Eggers' three-pointer pulled UNO within 26-23 with 8:23 left and her layup two minutes later again cut the margin to three, 28-25.
CSU-Pueblo then reeled off 11 straight points and led at the half 44-32. CSU-Pueblo kept the double-digit lead the rest of the way.
UNO was outshot from the field, 48 percent to 38 percent.
Quatisha Bailey led CSU-Pueblo with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mavericks are next in action in the NDSU Classic in Fargo, N.D., on Dec. 12-13, facing Glenville State and Massachusetts-Lowell at 5:30 p.m. each night.
