Soccer Team Falls in Exhibition Opener

OMAHA, Neb.-- The Maverick women's soccer team lost 6-1 to the Canadian U-17 National Team in its exhibition opener Tuesday evening at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. Junior Brytten Kraft scored the only Maverick goal on a cross from sophomore Christen Boeckel at the 1:30 mark.
Sophomores Amy Price and Jane Splittgerber split time in goal each half for the Mavs. Price recorded six saves, played 71 minutes and gave up all six goals. Splittgerber made three saves in 19 minutes.
Canadian goalkeeper Liz Cook played the entire game and made three saves.
Media day will take place Saturday, Aug. 23 at 4 p.m., followed by an exhibition against Bellevue at 5. Creighton will host the Mavs the following day at 6 p.m. before the regular season begins on Aug. 29 against Minnesota-Duluth at Ak-Sar-Ben Field.
