Qwest Purchases Naming Rights For Omaha's New Aren

OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha's new convention center and arena will be named "Qwest Center Omaha." The announcement was made Wednesday by the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority.
Qwest Center Omaha is home to the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Maverick hockey team and the Creighton University Bluejays men's basketball team. The building will also play host to an array of events including concerts, sporting events and family shows.
The Denver-based telecommunications company will pay just over $14 million for naming rights over the next 15 years. It will provide $525,000 worth of wireless service to the complex, plus, sell other services like internet and cable to the facility.
The Nebraska-Omaha hockey team opens play this fall in the 14,700-seat, $291 million venue with an exhibition game against the University of Manitoba on October 5th.
