
UNO Picked Sixth in Volleyball Coaches Poll

The 2003 University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverick volleyball team was picked to finish sixth in the North Central Conference volleyball coaches poll relased today. The 2003 version of the UNO Mavericks will feature the return of five starters and 11 letterwinners from last season's 14-17 squad that more than doubled the previous year's win total when UNO finished 6-21. The Mavericks finished in eighth place in the final 2002 conference standings with a 4-12 NCC record.
Minnesota State, Mankato has been picked by league coaches as the
favorite to capture the North Central Conference championship. Minnesota State captured six of the eight first-place votes with North
Dakota State and South Dakota State gaining the other two top votes.
Northern Colorado captured the league title last season with a 15-1 NCC
mark. The Bears were joined by South Dakota State, North Dakota, Minnesota
State and North Dakota State in the NCAA North Central Region tournament.
Northern Colorado won that tournament and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
Teams begin play on the weekend of August 28 with conference play opening
on September 23.
