Soccer Shut Out by Creighton in Exhibition

OMAHA, Neb.-- UNO finished the preseason at 1-2 after suffering a 3-0 shutout against Creighton Sunday night at CU's new downtown field. Both teams had early chances, but the Bluejay's Regina Moench scored twice in the first 18 minutes for an early lead. Ivonne Valentin headed one in on a third period corner kick to put away the Mavs. The teams played three 30 minute periods.
UNO's Haley Fries, who scored twice Saturday against Bellevue, had three of the Mav's best chances to get on the scoreboard. In the third minute her shot from 20 feet out and left went right into the hands of Bluejay keeper Jaimie Thompson and in the 35th minute she missed wide from 15 feet out. Three minutes later she missed a header from senior Stephanie Kirby's free kick.
Amy Price played all 90:00 minutes in goal and made two saves while Thompson recorded five. Lulu Quigley assisted on all three Bluejay goals and Ivonne Valentin aided in the second.
UNO opens the regular season ranked second nationally and as the pre-season pick to win the North Central Conference. Play begins Friday with a home match-up against Minnesota-Duluth at 5 p.m. The team will then travel to Wayne State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. The Mavs blanked the Bulldogs and the Wildcats 3-0 last year in two of their 16 shutouts.
