Grace's Second Half Goals Defeat SW Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo.- The Mavs found themselves behind for the first time this year after Southwest Baptist took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but UNO's Ashley Grace scored twice in the second half to lead the top-ranked Mavs to a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon. The SW Baptist goal was the first one allowed by the Maverick defense since the NCAA II championship match last year. Grace now leads the team in scoring with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists).
SBU's Pip Meo broke the Mav's five-game shutout streak at the 12:20 mark when she connected on a cross from Jessica Mitchell to give the Lady Bearcats a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until Grace scored an unassisted goal at the 59 minute mark. She then put in the go-ahead goal, her fifth of the year, at the 85:25 mark, also unassisted.
The Mavs outshot SBU 18-9 and allowed five shots on goal. Sophomore Amy Price stopped four of them to notch her fifth win in goal. Bearcat keeper Kelsey Lueckenhoff stopped nine of the Mavericks 11 shots on goal as her team fell to 1-3 and lost for the second time this year to a top-rated team, the first coming Sept. 2 at Christian Brothers.
UNO (6-0-0) wrapped up a five-game road trip and will play in just its second home series next weekend when they host Washburn Saturday at 1 p.m. and Emporia State Sunday, also at 1. A win in either of those games would give Coach Don Klosterman and his Mavs their 75th win in just their fifth year of competition.
