Mavs Split in Day 2 of UNO Tournament

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team (6-4) split a pair of matches in the second day of action on Saturday at the UNO Tournament, losing to Arkansas Tech 3-1 (30-28, 23-30, 30-28, 30-28), before rebounding in the final match of the tourament with a 3-0 (34-32, 30-21, 30-22) win over in-state rival Wayne State.
The Mavericks, who are now 6-4 on the season, were led in the loss to ATU by junior outside hitter Amy Sibbersen (Omaha, Neb.) who recorded her third-straight 20-kill performance, notching 22 kills, along with 11 digs and 3 blocks. Junior outside hitter Jenny Rankin (North Platte, Neb.) added 13 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Miller (Aurora, Neb.) led the Maverick defense with a a career-high 27 digs, while adding 12 digs and two service aces.
Once again Sibbernsen led the Mavericks against Wayne State with 12 kills and 12 digs for her seventh consecutive double-double.
The Mavericks had a strong showing at the service line with 13 aces, led by Rankin's career-high six. Rankin served eight straight points in the second game, including four aces, to help UNO pull away for the easy victory.

Nebraska-Omaha will host the 18-team North Central Region Challenge next Friday-Saturday, Sept. 12-13 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will battle four teams from the Northern Sun Conference, including Bemidji State, Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota State-Moorhead, and Northern State.
