No. 7 SDSU Hands Mavs 104-62 Loss

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- No. 7 South Dakota State, the defending NCAA II champion, pulled away from the Mavericks late in the first half and cruised to a 104-62 North Central Conference victory in front of 1,604 at Frost Arena Saturday night.
UNO, now 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the NCC, grabbed the early lead, then watched the Jacks tick off 15 straight points to take a 16-7 lead seven minutes into the game.
Freshman guard Andrea Schoepf, who tied a school record with seven three-pointers Friday night, ignited a Maverick rally with a trey. Junior forward Raina Tasa, coming back from off-season knee surgery, helped keep the rush going and gave UNO a 24-20 lead with a free throw with 8:11 remaining in the first half.
Brenda Davis gave the Jacks the lead for good with five minutes left when she nailed a three-pointer for a 27-26 edge and SDSU closed the half with a 9-0 run for a 46-33 lead at the break.
UNO never could get below a double digit deficit after halftime and the Jackrabbits gradually pulled out of reach.
Tasa, who was limited to just three minutes on the court the second half, led UNO with 11 points, while sophomore center Sara Myers added 10 points and seven rebounds. UNO shot 50 percent from the floor for the game.
SDSU outrebounded UNO 50-23 for the game and took advantage of 26 turnovers in improving to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the NCC. The Jacks had six players in double figures, led by Davis and Megan Vogel, who scored 17 apiece.
The Mavericks will next be in action at North Dakota State on Friday, Jan. 16.
