Mavs Fall to No. 11 Bison

FARGO, N.D. -- No. 11 North Dakota State pulled away from the Mavericks near the end of the first half and cruised to an 88-56 North Central Conference victory in the Bison Sports Arena Friday night. Lindsey Petersen and Leslie Ross led UNO with 12 points each and Petersen added six rebounds.
The Mavs, who shot just 41 percent from the floor, fell to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in the NCC before Saturday night's game at No. 3 ranked North Dakota. Saturday's game, which tips off at 6 p.m., will be televised locally and may be picked up on satellite. Pauli's in Omaha will show the game, which will be followed by the UNO-North Dakota men's game.
The Mavs never led, but managed to stay close to the Bison most of the first half, trailing by a field goal midway through the half, and by 29-22 with just 2:45 left on a short jumper by freshman guard Andrea Schoepf.
After Mav junior forward JJ Smith scored to trim the deficit to 32-24 with 2:10 remaining, the Bison slammed the door shut, scoring the final 10 points of the half for a 42-24 lead at the break.
NDSU, which improved to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the NCC, scored 32 points off 25 UNO turnovers and shot 54 percent from the floor for the game. Angie Froehlich led four double-figure scorers with 17 points. Katie Lorenz added 16.
