Third Period Goal Earns Mavs 2-2 Tie With No. 15 M

Oxford, Ohio--UNO freshman goaltender Kris Tebbs recorded 37 saves Friday night as the Mavericks came from behind in the third period and earned a 2-2 tie against No. 15 Miami University.
The Mavericks scored the first goal of the game at 2:58 of the second period when David Morelli scored his fourth goal of the season. Morelli grabbed a rebound after a shot from Mike Lefley and flipped a wrister past Miami goaltender Brandon Crawford-West.
Miami knotted the score at 1-1 when Derek Edwardson scored at 9:01 of the second period off of a rebound. MU then took a 2-1 lead eight minutes later when Greg Hogeboom converted on a slapshot from the top of the left circle.
UNO fought back and tied the score at 2-2 with nine minutes remaining in the game on the power play. Mike Gabinet flicked a wrist shot past Crawford-West from the left faceoff circle after Dan Hacker fed him from the point.
The tie against the league-leading RedHawks was the first point earned by the Mavericks on the road since a 4-1 win over Ferris State last November. Nebraska-Omaha also extended a streak of eight-straight games with a power play goal.
UNO (6-15-4, 4-12-3) will conclude its series with Miami at Goggin Ice Arena on Saturday night with a 6:35 p.m. faceoff.
