Mavs End DakotaDome Skid With 74-67 Win

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Mavericks ended an 11-game losing skid in the DakotaDome with a 74-67 victory over South Dakota to stay within one game of first place in the North Central Conference. UNO is now 15-5 overall and 5-2 in the NCC before facing the Coyotes in a rematch in Omaha next Saturday night.
The Mavs last won in the DakotaDome in 1992. USD fell to 12-7 and 2-5 with the loss in front of 3,509.
UNO overcame 35 percent shooting the first half to take a 27-26 lead on a pair of free throws by Levy Jones with 2:53 left and never trailed again. The Mavericks led at the break, 31-26.
A 9-1 run by the Mavs in the opening minutes of the second half, capped by Tola Dada's jumper with 16:38 left put UNO in control, 40-30.
The Coyotes wouldn't go away, however, and pulled within 54-50 with 6:49 left on Tommie King's two free shots, but Zac Robinson promptly put down a three and Ty Graham added another two minutes later for the Mavericks.
South Dakota's last gasp came in the closing minute. Robinson hit two free throws for a 70-64 Maverick lead with 47 seconds left, but Vince McGill gunned a three five seconds later to pull the Coyotes to within three.
Levy Jones hit two free throws with 37 seconds left for UNO and USD's Josh Mueller missed a three with 28 seconds left. Andre Tarpley gave UNO its final margin with a stuff shot with 18 seconds left.
UNO's balanced offense was led by Dada, who scored all of his points the second half and Jones, with 14 points and seven rebounds apiece. Graham added 12 and Robinson 10.
King, 11-for-14 from the floor, led the Coyotes with 27 points and Mueller added 11.
