Mavericks Hold Off Briar Cliff, 72-60

Lindsey Petersen's four three-pointers and 16 points helped lead the Mavericks to their second straight win, 72-60, Monday night over non-conference rival Briar Cliff. The win improves UNO's record to 4-8 heading into its North Central Conference opener Friday night at Augustana.
Petersen connected on three shots from behind the arc the first half as the Mavericks recovered from an early four-point deficit to take a 39-29 lead at halftime.
The Chargers (4-12) battled from 12 and 13 points down after the break to close within 65-60 with 2:39 left while shooting 64.3 percent from the field the second half, but the Mavericks slammed the door the rest of the way.
UNO guard Shannon Eggers gave the Mavs breathing room with a layup and Krissy Turman added a pair of free throws with 2:14 left to expand the lead to 69-60. Skeeter Zoucha put the finishing touches on the win with a three pointer with 22 seconds left.
JJ smith added 11 points, six steals and six rebounds and Carlye Jones 10 points and six rebounds for the Mavericks Sara Myers pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Petersen connected on four of six behind the three-point line and also added four assists and a steal. Eggers contributed seven assists.
Briar Cliff was led by Dana Lehner's 17 points and 16 by Betsy Graf.
