Schoepf Ties 3-Point Mark in Loss to Augustana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Freshman guard Andrea Schoepf tied a school record with seven three-pointers Friday night, but it wasn't enough to get the Mavericks past Augustana. The Vikings dealt UNO an 85-71 loss on the strength of a second-half rally in the North Central Conference opener for both teams.
Schoepf, from South Sioux City, Neb., connected on seven of 10 three-point shots and finished with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds to lead UNO, which fell to 4-9 on the season.
The Mavericks continue their two-game NCC road swing Saturday night at South Dakota State at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KOIL, 1020 am.
Schoepf, who hit three of five from behind the arc the first half, helped the Mavericks surge to as many as seven points ahead before the break. UNO led, 37-34 at halftime and Sara Myers' three-point play gave UNO a 47-41 lead with 16:36 to play in the second half.
The Vikings then reeled off 13 straight points to take the lead for good. UNO cut the gap to five three times, the last one coming with 10:52 left on JJ Smith's layup that brought UNO within 58-53.
Laura Hensley sparked a 6-0 run with four points for the Vikings, putting the lead in double digits.
The Mavs slipped behind by 18 points, 78-60, and managed a late rally as Schoepf hit her final three from behind the stripe to pull as close as 12 points in the closing seconds.
Smith added 12 points and Myers 11. Katie Krauth led five Vikings in double figures with 20 points.
