Mavericks Down Western Michigan 7-3

Omaha, Neb--The University of Nebraska-Omaha raced to a 4-0 lead and goalie Chris Holt turned away 35 shots en-route to a 7-3 victory over Western Michigan in front of 4,531 fans at Qwest Center.
Bill Bagron opened the scoring with a shothanded goal just 1:36 into the game. The Mavericks' Scott Parse struck just over a minute later to give UNO a 2-0 lead. Dan Knapp's slap shot goal at 6:17 of the first period chased Bronco starting goalie Daniel Belissimo.
After Phillip's goal 2:04 into the second period, Western Michigan fought back. Vince Bellissimo scored two goals within four minutes and Mike Erickson added his first tally of the year to bring the Broncos within one at the end of the second period.
But UNO would storm back in the final period, adding goals by Brandon Scero, Bryan Marshall, and Dan Hacker.
Holt turned away 35 of 38 shots on the evening, improving his record to 3-0 on the year.
UNO is now 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the CCHA. Western Michigan in 1-2 overall and in the CCHA.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in a 7:05 game at the Qwest Center.
