Mavs Add 3 National Letter Signees

Head Coach Patty Patton Shearer said today that three high school seniors from Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota have signed national letters of intent to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha next fall and play basketball for the Mavericks. Ellen Majewski, Greene, Iowa; Cayla Hargrove, Oakdale, Minn., and Kristen McMahon, Hartford, S.D., are the new recruits.
Majewski is a 5-6 point guard from North Burter High School in Greene. She averaged 16.8 points, 3.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game for the 17-6 team that was coached by Kevin Clipperton. She has been a two-time all-conference and all-district selection and last year was a second-team all-state pick in Iowa. She is the daughter of Jack and Colleen Majewski.
"Ellen is the essence of a competitor," Patton Shearer said. "She thrives on pressure situations and is incredibly cerebral on the floor. She knows how to win and how to translate that to game-time situations. Ellen will bring pride and determination to UNO basketball."
Hargrove is a 5-11 guard who helped lead North St. Paul High School to a 20-8 record under Coach Dan Larson. She is a two-time all-conference and two-time all-Metro pick and last season was a second-team all-state selection. She also is a two-time team MVP. As a junior, she averaged 19.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. She is the daughter of William and Carole Hargrove.
"Cayla is a gifted scorer who constantly works to create offense," Patton Shearer said. "She has great athletic ability and will be a tremendous asset to our roster."
McMahon, the daughter of John and Julie McMahon, averaged 17.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a 5-10 guard/forward for West Central High School in Hartford underCcoach Joe Caffrey. She is a two-time all-conference selection and was the team MVP and named to the all-state second team last year. West Central was 18-6 and finished fourth in last year's state tournament.
"Kristen is a solid playmaker who always loves to compete with moxie," Patton Shearer said. "We are thrilled to have Kristen as a Maverick. She brings great versatility to the team."
