Mavericks Down Bowling Green 4-2

Omaha, Neb--Alex Nikiforuk scored his first two goals of the season to lead the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 4-2 victory over Bowling Green in front of 5,846 fans at the Qwest Center Omaha.
UNO never trailed in the contest after David Phillips power play goal just 1:54 into the game. Nikiforuk added another goal with a man advantage, as the Mavericks built a 2-1 lead after one period.
Bryan Marshall scored 1:50 into the second stanza and Nikiforuk put in his second goal of the game early in the third period, giving UNO a 4-1 lead with 16:23 to play.
Steve Brudzewski added a goal for Bowling Green, cutting the Maverick lead to 4-2. But Maverick goaltender Chris Holt stoned the Falcons the rest of the way, earning his sixth win of the year.
Holt stopped 21 shots for the game. The Mavericks peppered Falcon goaltender Jordan Sigalet with 35 shots.
The Mavericks were 2-of-7 on the power play on the evening. Bowling Green was 1-5.
UNO is now 6-3-0 overall, 4-3-0 in the CCHA and moved to 5-0-0 at home this season. Bowling Green dropped to 4-2-1 and 2-2-1 in the CCHA.
The two teams square off again Saturday night at 7:05 at Qwest Center Omaha.
