Mavs Final-Four Bound After 4-0 Win

ASHLAND, OHIO -- Anne Willrett and Beth McGill each scored a pair of goals to lead the Mavericks into their third straight NCAA Division II soccer final four Sunday with a 4-0 win over Ashland. The Mavs will face Metro State in the semifinal match on Dec. 2 in Wichita Falls, Tex.
UNO improved to 19-3-2 with the victory over No. 9 Ashland, which ended its season 19-2-1.
McGill opened scoring on a penalty kick at the 13:58 mark and less than six minutes later Willrett conected from five yards out on a crossing pass from McGill at 19:21.
Willrett scored her second of the game on an unassisted effort into the lower left corner at 59:03. McGill tacked on an insurance goal at 79:44 with an assist from Ali Portell.
UNO outshot Ashland 12-10 and had a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Amy Price made three saves for the Mavericks.
McGill, the Mavs' leading scorer, now has 20 goals on the season; Willrett, the second-leading scorer, has 16.
The Mavericks finished second in the nation in 2002 and lost in the semifinals last year under Coach Don Klosterman.
This will be the second meeting for UNO and Metro State this season and the third all-time. The Roadrunners claimed a 5-0 win in the Mavs' opening game this season. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the 2003 season.
