Hot-Shooting Mavs Down Truman State

The Mavericks came out hot and cruised to their fourth win Friday with a 76-58 victory over Truman State in the Thanksgiving Classic at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse. UNO will meet Colorado School of Mines Saturday night at 8 in the second game of the tournament.
Senior guard Abdul Mills led the Mavs with 14 points, Randy Bland added 11 and Andre Tarpley 10 as UNO improved to 4-1 on the season. Truman State fell to 0-4 and will play South Dakota Saturday afternoon at 3 in the second game. South Dakota defeated Colorado Mines in double overtime 105-94 Friday.
The Mavericks shot 64 percent from the field the first half while scoring the game's first nine points and jumped out front by as many as 20 the first half. UNO led, 46-27 at the break.
UNO cooled off only slightly, shooting 54.5 percent the second half to finish at 59.6 percent. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, struggled from the field, shooting 30.3 percent the first half and 34.9 percent for the game.
Derek Lindsey led the Bulldogs with 13 points. Andy Calmes added 11 and Grant Agbo 10.
