Mavs Seek Revenge in Semifinal Match

OMAHA, Neb.-- Nebraska-Omaha will be traveling to Wichita Falls, Texas to take part in the NCAA Final Four Tournament Thursday and Saturday. Carson-Newman and Adlephi will battle at 5:30 p.m. while Nebraska-Omaha will play in the nightcap facing Metropolitan State at 8 p.m. cst for the chance to make it to the final match . The winners will play for the NCAA Division II title on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Two weeks ago, UNO defeated Ashland University 4-0 to advance to their third-straight Final Four. Historically, the Mavericks finished second in the nation in 2002 and lost in the semifinals last year under sixth-year Head Coach Don Klosterman

UNO has faced only one of the three teams in the NCAA Final Four tournament. Metro State, UNO's opponent Thursday defeated the Mavericks 5-0 in the first game of the season. The other game played between the two teams came last year, ending in a scoreless tie.

The Mavericks Final Four games will be broadcasted on Omaha's KOIL 1020 am. Jim Kelter will announce the play-by-play while two-time UNO All-American Stephanie Kirby will do the color commentary.
About Metro State
The Roadrunners of Metro State boast a gaudy 23-1 record, only falling to Cal. State Bakersfield in the first week of the season. Throughout the year, Metro State has been ranked in the NSCAA/adidas top 10 consistently. Metro State is no stranger to the Final Four as they are making their second trip in three years to the elite group.
Metro State defeated Seattle University 1-0 in the NCAA Quarterfinals, with the lone goal coming from senior Adrienne Almarez on a penalty kick in the 68th minute. Goalie Mandy Allen recorded four saves in the shutout giving her six on the season; MSCD has a total of 16 shutouts on the year. Allen holds a 10-1 record allowing only four goals, giving her a .38 goals against average adding 32 saves.
Offensively MSCD is led by a duo of forwards and a midfielder that all boast jaw dropping numbers.Forwards Kylee Hanavan and Amy Leichliter lead the team with 26 and 15 goals respectively. Hanavan has also recorded 13 assists giving her a team-leading 65 points. Leichliter, a scoring machine herself, has assisted on 11 goals, giving her 41 points. Midfielder Ymara Guante has tallied 13 goals and has added 16 assists.
Together this trio has accounted for 55 percent of Metro State's goals, and the team sits one goal shy from reaching the century mark for goals scored in a season.
About Carson-Newman
The Lady Eagles bring a 19-2-2 record into Texas and are winners of seven straight. Carson-Newman defeated Lincoln Memorial 3-1 to earn the trip to the Final Four. Jenny Bock scored within the first minute for C-N on a rebound off a shot. Two late goals from Rebecca Nulph and Lindsay Ferris iced the win for the Eagles.
Sophomore Rebecca Angus leads the Eagles' offensive attack recording 18 goals, including five game-winners and has added nine assists. Bock, a junior forward, has scored 15 goals and has assisted on eight.
Freshman Melissa Terrell has been the goalie of record all season allowing 23 goals giving her a 1.02 goals against average. Although she has given up the most goals of all the goalies in the Final Four, Terrell has made an eye-widening 65 saves.
About Adelphi
Adelphi University holds a 19-3-1 record as they make the trip west to Texas. The Panthers tied Franklin Pierce 2-2, but beat them 6-5 in a shootout for the dramatic victory. Adelphi was down 2-1 with less than four minutes remaining until senior Dina Cali scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute sending the match into extra frames.
Senior Josephine Coiro leads the team with 16 goals, also adding 10 asssits giving her 42 points. Lea Brady is second on the team with 13 goals, assisting on one goal.
Between the pipes for Adelphi is Christine Conway. Conway has allowed only 16 goals all season and has made 57 saves. The freshman has recorded eight shut outs and has a .75 goals against average.
Wrapping up Quarterfinal Match
In the NCAA Quarterfinal on Nov. 21st, UNO defeated Ashland University 4-0, in Ashland, Ohio on two pair of goals by Beth McGill and Anne Willrett. Mcgill opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a penalty kick. Five minutes later, Willrett notched her first goal of the game on a crosser from McGill. Shortly after halftime, Willrett scored unassisted at 59:13. McGill sealed the victoryon a pass from Ali Portell scoring in the last mintute of the game, and her 20th goal of the year to give UNO the 4-0 victory. Junior goalkeeper Amy Price made four saves as the Maverick defense held Ashland to only 10 shots.
The win almost seemed like a breath of fresh air as UNO had to use two extra period victories, including a shoot-out in the central regional semifinal and final. The UNO victory ended Ashland's season giving them a 19-2-1 record.
