Thomas Earns National Honor

Nebraska-Omaha freshman forward Bill Thomas has been selected as the CSTV: College Sports Television/Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Rookie of the Month for October.
Thomas is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward from Pittsburgh, Penn., who helped the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 5-1-0 record in the month and crack one of the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey polls for the first time since the 2001-02 season with the Mavericks rounding out the top 15 of the USCHO.com/CSTV poll.
The 21-year old Thomas, who played for Tri-City of the USHL last season, has the second-highest point total (4-5-9) among freshmen in the country, and is
tied for the national lead with two short-handed goals on the season. Thomas was named the MVP of the Maverick Stampede tournament on Oct. 9-10 when he led his team to the championship for the first time in the five-year history of the event with two assists in a win over Connecticut, and a two-goal performance versus Merrimack in the title game. He was also named CCHA Rookie of the Week for his tournament performance.
Thomas recorded his first career, three-point game on Oct. 30 with two goals and assist in the Mavericks' first road victory over Michigan State since
Oct. 20, 2000.
