Nanooks Top Mavs, 3-1

Three different Nanooks scored goals as Alaska Fairbanks stopped Nebraska-Omaha 3-1 Friday night at the Carlson Center.
The game was scoreless after the first period and the Maverick penalty killing unit kept busy. UNO killed off five Nanook power plays in the opening period, including a 5-on-3 advantage.
The second period looked as if it would be scoreless as well until Adam Powell scored on a give-and-go with 20 seconds remaining in the second stanza for a 1-0 lead.
UAF extended its lead to 2-0 in the final period with a 4-on-4 goal from Kelly Czuy at the 9:25 mark.
UNO's Bill Thomas cut the Nanook lead in half one minute and 19 seconds later when he scored on the power play. Thomas knocked home a rebound after Kaleb Betts' shot hit the post.
Alaska Fairbanks then sealed the victory when Kyle Greentree scored an even-strength goal with 1:43 remaining in the game.
UAF outshot UNO 43-33 in the contest. Maverick goaltender Chris Holt had 40 saves and was the game's No. 3 star.
UNO was 1-for-4 on the power play while UAF was 0-for-8.
UNO (5-2-0, 3-2-0 CCHA) will meet Alaska Fairbanks in the series finale Saturday night at 10:05 (central time).
