UNO Sinks Lakers, 5-1

The UNO hockey team snapped a four-game winless streak Saturday night with a 5-1 victory over Lake Superior State in front of 5,634 fans at the Qwest Center.
UNO broke the game open in the second period on the power play when Joe Grimaldi scored the first of his two goals on the night at the 10:50 mark with a slapshot from the point. Bryan Marshall then extended the lead to 2-0 during a man-advantage situation, taking a nifty pass from David Phillips front behind the net and knocked home a wrister with a minute remaining in the period.
Grimaldi struck again at 5:48 of the final period on another slapshot from the point to extended the Maverick lead to 3-0. LSSU's Alex Dunn then spoiled UNO goaltender Chris Holt's shutout bid on a shorthanded goal with 8:24 remaining in the game.
Mick Lawrence and Scott Parse both added empty net goals to seal the victory.
UNO (8-7-1, 6-7-1 CCHA) is idle for the next two weeks and will head east for two games with Boston University and Massachusetts on December 29 and 30.
