Terriers Deal Mavs 4-1 Loss

BOSTON, MASS.-- Boston University's Dave Van der Gulik recorded two goals and an assist to lead the 13th-ranked Terriers to a 4-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday night at Walter Brown Arena.
The Mavericks held a 1-0 lead after the opening period when Dan Hacker scored a shorthanded goal at the 15:56 mark. Joe Grimaldi chipped the puck into the neutral zone from the halfboard and Hacker flew down the left wind to beat goaltender John Curry for UNO's only goal of the evening.
The second period belonged to the Terriers. Boston University scored three goals within the first five minutes of the period and outshot the Mavericks 16-0. Brian McConnell tied the game 1:23 into the second stanza with three seconds remaining on the power play. Brian Ewing and Van der Gulik then broke the game open when they scored 14 seconds apart at 4:18 and 4:32 for a 3-1 lead.
Van der Gulik tallied his second goal of the night at 15:57 of the final period to give the Terriers a three-goal cushion.
BU outshot UNO 35-15 in the contest. The Terriers were 1-for-5 on the power play while the Mavs went 0-for-2.
Maverick goaltender Chris Holt made 31 saves in the losing effort.
UNO (8-8-1 6-7-1 CCHA) travels to Amherst to take on Massachusetts Thursday night. The puck is scheduled to drop at 6:00 p.m. (central time).
