UNO Comeback Falls Short

MARQUETTE, MICH.--Northern Michigan's Nathan Oystrick scored with 24 seconds left in regulation to lift the Wildcats to a 3-2 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in front of 3,257 fans at the Berry Events Center Friday night.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period on a shorthanded goal by Kevin Gardner and an even-strength tally by Mike Santorelli.
UNO then staged a comeback with goals from Brandon Scero and Bill Thomas. Scero cut the lead in half at 10:15 of the second period after he knocked home a rebound from a Scott Parse shot. Thomas' goal came after UNO had an offensive zone faceoff and he snuck a wrister past Tuomas Tarkki four minutes into the final period.
The Mavs were 0-for-8 on the power play and killed off all five of NMU's man-advantage opportunites.
Nebraska-Omaha outshot Northern Michigan 25-24 in the contest.
UNO (7-5-1, 5-5-1 CCHA) will meet Northern Michigan (7-4-2, 5-3-1 CCH) in the series finale on Saturday. Faceoff is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
