Wayne State Sneaks by Mavs, 63-60

VERMILLION, S.D.-- Wayne State held off a late charge by Nebraska-Omaha and pulled off a 63-60 win at the South Dakota Classic on Saturday.
UNO had a chance to tie the game at the end of regulation, but Chelsie Groslie's three-point shot from 25 feet fell short as the buzzer sounded.
The Wildcats sprinted to a 23-9 lead with 11:08 left in the first half and held a 15-point halftime lead. Wayne State built an 18-point lead, 47-29, with 15:17 left in the game, but the Mavericks used defensive pressure and 56 percent shooting in the second half to cut the lead down to two.
Both teams missed key free throws down the stretch but Wayne State held the Mavs scoreless in the final two minutes to preserve the victory.
UNO was led by Chelsie Groslie and J.J. Smith, who each scored 13 points and Lindsey Petersen, who contributed 10 points.
Kristen Humphries led Wayne State with 19 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Nicole Bruntorad had 13 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Wildcats.
The Mavs (4-3) will host the College of St. Mary on December 7 at 6 p.m.
