Mavericks Fall To Lake Superior State

Omaha, Neb--The University of Nebraska-Omaha outshot Lake Superior State 39-19, but could not convert them into goals in a 5-2 CCHA loss in front of 4,833 fans at the Qwest Center Omaha.
The Mavericks stormed out in the first period, putting 19 shots on net, but could only manage one goal by Mick Lawrence. UNO at one point held a five on three advantage for over two minutes but were held at bay by goaltender Jeff Jakaitis and the Lakers.
The Mavericks finished 1-10 on the power play.
LSSU took control of the game in the second period, scoring three goals and chasing Maverick starting goalie Chris Holt.
Kaleb Betts narrowed the margin to 3-2 when he scored on the power play 1:09 into the third period.
But the Lakers would pull away with two goals in the last two minutes. Jon Booras scored shorthanded and Nathan Ward added an empty net goal to seal the victory for Lake Superior.
UNO is now 7-7-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the CCHA. Lake Superior State is 6-8-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the conference.
The two teams meet again Saturday night at 7:05 at Qwest Center Omaha.
